Visual Identity, Logo Design, Web Design

COMPANION offers integrated communications strategies for travel, dining and property brands in Asia. Launched in 2019, COMPANION as a one-man band, by 2023, the agency had become one of the leading boutique lifestyle PR agencies in Asia, and had outgrown its initial brand identity.

I was tasked with transitioning the brand from small-scale to medium-scale – helping the agency take a giant leap forward in its positioning, strategy and key messaging in a very busy market.

The 2023 redesign brings into focus a new logotype that highlights the principal philosophy of the agency: we are the only senior-led only communications agency in Asia, offering a deeper understanding of our multi-regional and multi-lingual markets.

Working closely with founder Dominique Backhouse, I created a new visual language to accurately represent the luxury yet playful core agency values.

The logotype is composed of alternating ascender and descender lengths to create movement, the constant motion that defines COMPANION. The colour palette uses a fresh sage to alleviate the density of the typeface Hanken Grotesk, a sans serif, which is paired with Playfair Display, display, to create an elegant contrast against the bold type.

A cornerstone of the COMPANION brand identity is imagery from a diverse range of clients. It was important to underscore the simplicity and beauty of these photographs as well as provide a strong backdrop for the Companion brand to flourish without overpowering.
